Tropical Cyclone Vernon


Tropical cyclone Vernon formed on 25 February 2022 near the Cocos Keeling Islands. Vernon developed to a category 3 cyclone while moving to the south-west. Severe Tropical Cyclone Vernon, category 3, continued to move west over open waters and left the Australasian region on 27/02/2022.

 

Details of Severe Tropical Cyclone Vernon at 2:00 am AWST 26/02/2022:

Intensity: category 3, sustained winds near the centre of 150 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 205 kilometres per hour.

Location: within 35 kilometres of 14.6 degrees South, 92.5 degrees East , 540 kilometres west southwest of Cocos Island .

Movement: west southwest at 19 kilometres per hour .

Severe Tropical Cyclone Vernon is well southwest of Cocos (Keeling) Islands. It will continue to move steadily west over the next 24 hours over open waters, and poses no threat to the Islands.
