The Fiji MetService named Tropical Cyclone Fili.Tropical cyclone Fili developed in the Southwest Pacific Ocean on April 5 2022 north of New Caledonia. Fili moved towards the southeast as a category 1 cyclone before developing further to a category 2 tropical cyclone on April 6 2022.  The category 2 cyclone continued moving towards the southeast before downgrading to a tropical low pressure system south of Noumea on April 8 2022.

 

Ex-Cyclone Fili is likely to track directly over – or very close to – the North Island of New Zealand midway through this coming week, bringing with it severe wind and rain risks and dangerous marine conditions as the storm re-energises into a bigger low pressure system.

TROPICAL CYCLONE 23P (FILI), LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 362 NM NORTHWEST OF NOUMEA, NEW CALEDONIA, HAS TRACKED SOUTHEASTWARD AT 08 KNOTS OVER THE PAST SIX HOURS. MAXIMUM SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHT AT 050600Z IS 20 FEET.
